The Saints by Niclas Gillis

48x60 inches. Oil on canvas. Niclas Gillis @niclasgillis was born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden, and trained at Berghs School of Communication before moving to New York to continue his studies at New York University. As a filmmaker, he has been compared to Pier Paolo Pasolini by New York Magazine and championed by Nike as “the premiere talent to watch”. His award-winning drama short film Hold Me Down was heralded as “a powerful, powerful drama” by CNN, and his experimental short film The Cave won the People’s Choice Award at the 30 Under 30 Film Festival. After working with editor Sylvia Ingemarsdotter (Autumn Sonata, Fanny & Alexander), Ingemarsdotter wrote: “Not since my work with Ingmar Bergman have I met such a totally devoted and artistically convincing director as Niclas Gillis.”

In fine art, Gillis first produced a series of screenprints titled Works after Muybridge, and exhibited with LA-based gallery Art Unified at fairs including the LA Art Show, SCOPE Miami, Art Palm Springs, Art on Paper, Texas Contemporary, and the Palm Beach Show. In 2025, a transformative experience inspired a new direction: to capture the transcendent through oil on canvas in works best described as Modern Sacred Art.
